There was a time when no parent would ever have even contemplated turning a cell phone over to a kid. Even a teenager was a gamble. After all, kids don't have a sense of the expense of such a device or how important it is to handle these with care or to even not lose them. Some kids don't like such a feature but hey it's for their protection as well as their parent's piece of mind. It gives the parent a chance to contact the kid if necessary easily. Just handing a kid a cell phone even with a user friendly type model and a trusted economical source isn't enough, certain rules have to be in place. The kid should have limits on minutes a month if they go beyond this and there are more fees the parent needs to let it be known that the phone could be taken away. May seem harsh but again a kid has been known to abuse such a device not realizing the money involved in having such a phone along with responsibility. So before the phone is handed over make sure the kid knows the rules for having the device along with taking care of it.
